Introduction to Open Water Swimming with the The Wild Swim Project.......it’s not just fun, it’s good for you…

Dipping or swimming in cold water can make a difference to someone’s physical and mental wellbeing. Put simply, it can make us feel better about ourselves and the world around us. It also provides a fantastic way to get to know your local area, be active in a non-competitive way and share the experience with other friendly people.

During this 1 hour Introduction session we will share top tips for swimming in open water swimming, share homemade cake, support you to get into the water and provide all the safety equipment you need. How much swimming you do is entirely up to you.

A typical session looks like this:

  • Welcome everyone and hand out any useful equipment.
  • Talk about what we will be doing and share swim safety information
  • Get changed into our swimming clothes
  • Swim, dip, stick our toes in the water. Coaches Paul and Jude will support you throughout and encourage you to decide what works for you. There is no set time you have to be in the water for.
  • Get out, get changed
  • Share homemade cake, hot drinks and stories
  • Go home

Our approach is relaxed and we encourage people to spend time outside, enjoying themselves and having fun.

This is a non clinical based programme with the aim of helping young people with mild to moderate mental health needs and their parents or carers to get outside into nature and do an activity together.

The session is free but we do ask for £10 on booking to secure a place. This will be returned on completion of the session. There are spaces for 6 young people and their accompanying adult so 12 people in the group in total.

Jude and Paul are both experienced open water swim coaches and run an adventure business called Embrace Adventures CIC. They have have been running The Wild Swim Project since 2021, working with both young people and adults and the results and feedback have been very positive.

'As I get into the water, it is as if all my worries dissolve and I come out feeling better.' [teenage participant]

‘The Wild Swim Project has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life! I have met some wonderful people and I am finding the well being benefits extraordinary, including feeling calmer and happier. Thank you’. [Parent]

Course Booking Details.

The booking form, and questions attached is the only information shared with the swim project coaches.  The information is critical to the delivery of safe sessions.

The booking form covers both you and the young person you are coming with. You only need to make one booking per young person & adult

There are quite a few questions but they are really useful in helping us plan the sessions - thank you

We supply large, and very warm, changing robes for everyone to use.  We have a limited stock of wetsuits and most participants go into the water in a swim suit, shorts or similar. If you are keen to use a wetsuit please indicate on the form and we will do our best to help.

Any questions, please get in touch with your CYPS contact or Jude (07946 637584) or Paul (07930304312)  embraceadventurescic@gmail.com

It can be useful to have our numbers in your phone in case you are running late or not able to find us on the day.
