Course Description & Information
The Wild Swim Project.......it’s not just fun, it’s good for you…
Dipping or swimming in cold water can make a difference to someone’s physical and mental wellbeing. Put simply, it can make us feel better about ourselves and the world around us. Doing it regularly can help reduce our stress levels in everyday life, reduce feelings of anxiety and boost our immune systems. It also provides a fantastic way to get to know your local area, be active in a non-competitive way and share the experience with other friendly people.
There is so much more to wild swimming than actual swimming. The cold water plays a big part in supporting our mental health and people often talk about it helping clear their head as when they first submerge into the lake they cannot think about anything else. Being out in nature, making new friends and taking on a new challenge are also really important.
What is the Wild Swim project
It is a series of 4 wild swimming sessions designed for people who will gain from the mental and physical health benefits that immersing in cold water and in nature brings. Over the 4 sessions, we introduce the group to the benefits of swimming wild, give them the skills and knowledge to build confidence and encourage people to follow their own wild swimming journey.
The expectation is that people attend as many of the 4 sessions as possible but how much swimming or dipping they do is up to them.
Dates: all tuesdays 10:45 - 12:45
4th, 11th & 18th June and 2nd July
A typical session looks like this:
Our approach is relaxed and we encourage people to spend time outside, enjoying themselves and having fun.
We have been running The Wild Swim Project since 2021, working with both young people and adults and our results and feedback has been very positive.
'As I get into the water, it is as if all my worries dissolve and I come out feeling better.' [teenage participant]
‘The Wild Swim Project has been one of the most enjoyable experiences of my life! I have met some wonderful people and I am finding the well being benefits extraordinary, including feeling calmer and happier. Thank you’. [Participant in the adult pilot group]
